National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies

Over the past 25 years, John has developed 12 sub-divisions in the Florence area, consisting of over 1000 lots.  As a homebuilder John has built 350 new homes in the Florence Darlington area as well as numerous additions and renovations.  He has also build over 200 multi-family units.  In addition to the utility construction work for sub-divisions, he has done numerous general contracting jobs including bank buildings, a veterinarian's office, a doctors office, fast food restaurants, office up-fits and retail up-fits.

John has been a long time member of the Florence Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Realtors, the Better Business Bureau and the Home Builders Association.  He served four terms as local President with the Home Builders Association of the Greater Pee Dee, three terms as District Vice President for the South Carolina Home Builders Association, and six years as a Director on the National Association of Home Builders.  He received Builder of the Year in 1991 and 2000.  John aslo recieved the State Distinguished President Award in 1990 and 1991.

In 1995, he was first appointed to the Residential Builders Commission by Governor David Beasely and was subsequently re-appointed twice for four year terms.  He served three years as Vice Chairman, and was on the first Investigative Review Committeee.  From 2000-2007 John served as Chairman.  During that time he worked on the re-write of the Practice Act for the Residential Builders Commission and updated the Residential Construction Standards.  He testified at sub committees and full committee hearings in both the House and Senate on matters that concern the Residential Builders Commission.  He was the representative for the Commission to establish the bank of questions to be used for the current licensing exam.  He also represented the Commission at the Codes Council regarding the conversion to the new International Code.  He held hearings to establish regulations to license plumbers, electricians and HVAC Contractors.  In addition to serving as Chairman, John was also appointed by the Commission to serve as a hearing officer for the Residential Builders Commission in 2000.  Upon his resignation as a board member of the Commission in October 2007, he agreed to continue serving as a hearing officer and in January 2008 was appointed by the South Carolina Contractors Licensing Board as a hearing officer. 

John has been involved for many years with The National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA).  In 2003 he became a board member and is now serving as Second Vice President on the Executive Committee. 

John also serves on the Advisory Board for The National Bank of South Carolina (NBSC) and the Board of Trustees for The South Carolina Home Builders Self Insurers Fund.
